Keane or Something Like That

Here it is...my Nana's last name, Irish of course, God bless her sweet soul. Keane (pronounced CANE)stands for lots of things, mostly the 'old ones' or something similar. Anyways, please feel free to enjoy the family crest.

Onto bigger issues....who is hosting the next P.A.R.T.Y.??? Just a concerned question from a partygoer....what can I say?

Take care of you (each and everyone)!

Finally December

Hey Everyone,
Just me here...wishing you all well and lots of good Christmas cheer! Well, leftover cheer that is. All is well right now, will start chemo this week and radiation on January 2...what happened in there? Got diagnosed with a big old Grade IV glioblastoma, left frontal lobe...urghhh...

Looking like it might be a bit shortsided at this end, but we WILL see....

Talk to you all soon!

Wednesday November 14

Hard to believe it's been over two weeks since I posted anything! (This is even hard for me to believe!) So here we are, middle of November, Turkey Day looming in about a week.

I thought about a lot of things these past couple weeks, and then thought, I could get all prosaic and profound and it wouldn't really change the nature of where we are, here and now. Haven't felt inspired lately, haven't felt like doing much except for sleeping...although this aspect of my life is definitely improving!

And so, an early Thanksgiving wish: Love the ones you're with.

Simple, far more profound than any other ponderings, but totally gets at the truth of why we're all here. So do it!

Happy Halloween Birthday!

Okay, no mentioning names here. You KNOW who you ARE. Happy BD to my newest and very good friend, whose taste in chocolate parallels even my own. You are a STAR! And I am counting my stars, as I don't know which ones to thank for your friendship! Safe travels girlfriend!

Happy Thirtysomething

To CW-my best friend and confidante....Happy Day of Birth!

Many times you have listened so thoughtfully to all I had to say, and often I regret not saying "Thank You" more than I do...
You are the bestest! Hope you have an incredibly happy day...especially if you're wearing those funky fine red crystal earrings...you GO girl!

Saturday Ride

So there are a few sprinkles today...and this way funny smell outdoors, like we're near a paint factory or something odd...

Maybe my nostrils have suddenly become elderly...could be I have reached a critical mass in years and they just don't work like they used to? Hmmmm.

Tomorrow we bike. And then, of course, MANDATORY post ride carbs and brew. While I have not read SEVEN tomes in the last few months like my buddy, gb, I have been visualizing a more peaceful, calm and satisfying way to really enjoy chocolate. I will share more once my experiment proves successful. Just remember, there CAN be JOY in research!

Another Year Older.....

Birthday cakes are everywhere! Check out the Ronneblog this morning too! (Thanks for the inspiration!)

Before I head out to celebrate the big day....here are a few things I've learned:

1. Chocolate is perfectly acceptable for breakfast when accompanied by strong, black coffee (ummm umm!)
2. It's important to be patient...(I realize it, I see it, it's just that....I have an ARIES moon! I mean come ON!)
3. Leadership is learned in the most unusual places...and often when least expected
4. Kindness is always your best bet (even if you must be STERN about it)
5. Cry when you need to
6. Laugh often
7. Love will save the day, even when you think there is no such thing as love. In reality, it's all there is!

Have a piece of cake today...preferably chocolate!

Pudgy Like Me

At the request of the most honorable gb, I am writing a poem about my pudginess. And I am, pudgy, but also beautiful and fabulouso. Just more of me to love babies....

Pudgy Like Me

Today I wasn't happy with me
It's the mirror and the things I see
My heart is good, my brain is fine
It's my (name the body part) on the line

Sometimes I wish I were a bee
I could fly around from flower to tree
And drink the nectar that's meant for me
Collecting pollen and getting sleep-ee

I'd take that nap each afternoon
On the flowering branch that held my swoon-
Ing weight, that is
Given the pollen and all

I know that I don't always rhyme
So it's good to have a bit of time
To slow down and breathe and take a rest
Where my heart and body are their best

My Home.

There is another diva I know
Whose weekend is about to grow
Into something wonderful for those that row
She is our friend, our confidant too
And this is why we wish for you
All good things returned for all the goodness you do
And so it is

Go Team! (You Know Who You Are!!!)

Pictures from a Wedding

Okay everyone...here are a few pics from the big Wedding!

Rachel and her Dad

Partying relatives...do I look short here or what??? Hard to believe I'm just a tad short of 5'10" and obviously the shortest member of the family, save for the grand mistress seated in the center....

The bride and groom (Hey...when did he get old enough to marry somebody???)
Okay, this was just too much fun for one weekend! I think another celebration is in order! Soon!
Have a great week!

Grow Grass Grow!

While I'm waiting for my sister in law to send the Wedding of the Century Pics, I figured I could enlist everyone's help in manifesting a new LUSH backyard. The seed's down, it rained last night.....I'm EVER hopeful!

PS The Weekend was FAB! I wonder if my nephew has any IDEA of what he's gotten himself into???? Hard to believe he's old enought to be married! I can still remember cleaning the ice cream off him and all the furniture it landed on when he was two....oh well, he's still pretty darn cute (and one lucky dude to capture Ms. Rachel!).

Friday

It's finally here! Four days after hitting my head on the bathroom floor, the headache is finally much better! I can read, talk logically, and, on occasion, actually make sense.

Soon my fabulous sense of humor will return too....

But first, the basement MUST be purged! Tonight is the first annual purge-the-ex-fest...I think the Salvation Army is going to be pretty darn pleased.

Tomorrow there are two BIG events: 1) Alex and Rachel tie the knot-YES, IT IS, the WEDDING of the CENTURY and 2) KCRC is competing at Head of the Oklahoma (GO TEAM!!!)

Let's hope the planets are ALL in ALIGNMENT!

Flaming June

I love this painting. It is by Frederick Lord Leighton. I have a wonderful poster of it. Seems that June likes to nap...and I can most definitely confirm it. Ten top reasons to take a nap include:
1. You Just Feel Like It
2. You need a break from the...well...insanity
3. You have a headache....and need a break from the...insanity
4. Your body parts are MORE tired than you could ever imagine possible
5. It's Sunday afternoon and you have a GREAT book to read
6. It's Saturday afternoon and you're watching cable
7. You've just got done mowing, seeding and weeding the north and south 1/4 acre (flower beds included...personally, I think there must be a demon behind the whole flower bed thing....I mean, come ON...who invented WEEDS???)
8. You just finished a metric century on your bike (and the usual post ride brew)
9. You've had a series of managerial challenges in the last 48 hours (or 24 or 96-doesn't matter...it's the challenge that counts!)
10. You Just Feel Like It

Sleep tight!

Birthday Month

In the words of my best friend, Cindy...October 1 marks the beginning of Birthday Month! But being a Libra, I include both September and November in my 12 weeks of celebration! One can never celebrate life too much. And this IS a FACT.

While I haven't gotten any inspirational vibes just yet, I have to say, the older I get, the better life gets...the first part was hard, the second part was hard, and this part, well, it's hard too. It's just that, after forty, you start laughing at yourself a whole lot more than when you were twenty or thirty something. Somehow, you begin to see, that there's a time to be serious, but it's not ALL the time. Mostly, I'm just glad when I can get through a day without someone giving me a catalogue of complaints (mainly about me!).

Side on up my good buds, October is your friend, and of course, the best month in which to enjoy the fruits of the harvest! Or something like that....

Happy Birthday!

And so here we are, birthdays all over the place at this time of year. But, I wanted to send a special wish to a good friend.
Thank you for being you! Thank you for getting me off the couch and out into the world, when I was lost. Thank you for being so organized, and so kind, and so trustworthy! Thank you for forgiving me all my bad behavior.
But most of all, thank you for being my good friend. I will never lose sight of you again. I promise. Cross my heart....
Happy 40 something! It only gets better from here....
Love ya, girlfriend!

October's Almost Here

So....are you a good witch?

Or a witch who likes to have a good time???

In Kansas, you only get to be one OR the other....it's TOTALLY why I live in MISSOURI!

Blue Heelers

Okay, I just found this picture on a Blue Heeler website. Can I just say that fella on the left is the spitting image of my Best Boy? Mel, you are one rockin' poster dude!

Plaza Art Fair 2007

It's that time of year again! The Plaza Art Fair. Great fun, if it's not too hot. Cindy and Shelly and I spent a few hours rubbing elbows with the artists, the crowd, and at least a few four footed friends. It was cool to see everything: The art, the people, the mundane and unusual. I finally ponied up this year and bought something...a signed picture of a graveyard in Ireland. Not that I'm morose or anything, it's a pretty cool picture. I'm just trying to figure out now where to hang it...front hallway might be a little too intense for visiting guests. Bathroom...too scary for those about to shower. Bedroom, well maybe in the guest bedroom/workout room. It'll remind me my time here is limited, so I better get to it!

I've been cleaning this weekend (should've told everyone to sit down first, I know). It's true, this girl can actually accomplish quite a lot when the time is right...and friends, let me tell you, I'm about to hit the basement, pack up some unwanted history, and move on. It's about time I created a space for a new beginning and said goodbye to the past. I know, I know...you are collectively breathing a sigh of relief. Me Too.

Angel Love

If you're lucky, you just might get to see her on Kenwood Street. She's a very shy girl.

Friday

It's Friday here in the city. There's a lot going on. I'm taking the night off.

I love this city. Very cool place to live, if you can do without the frantic pace of NYC or Philly or LA for that matter.

Ahhh, there's just no place like home. Welcome to my world. It's a little crazy, disgruntled employees, friends with friends, friends without friends, everyone is so incredibly busy. Time out for an OM. Just here, just now.

Namaste.
